I really think we’re bringing the sunshine with us wherever we go. We just spent two days in Sydney, and both days were 32 degrees – unseasonably warm apparently!! Luckily it was more of a dry heat than Singapore so we were more able to actually do things.
The very worst part of the flight though was that we both knew we really needed to sleep on the plane, so we wouldn’t mess up our carefully curated sleep pattern (our birth certificates might say we’re age 25 and 30, but reality suggests more like 75 and 80). It started off fine, we both went to sleep fairly quickly. HOWEVER. About an hour later, I was abruptly awoken, bleary-eyed and delirious, by the LOUDEST SNORING I have EVER HEARD!!!! This phlegmy monstrosity was the noise of the devil and just would not stop. We both, along with the rest of the plane, ended up fuming in our seats for the rest of the journey, and landed in Sydney at 6am with less than two hours sleep.
ANYWAY I’ll move on from this. It’s fine.
So we got to Sydney six hours before we could access our air bnb. Saf has a friend, Emma, who is currently living in Sydney, so we went to meet her in Elizabeth Bay. We stopped by the Docks for a coffee and to take in the sun and the view. Emma recommended we walk to the nearby botanical gardens, and from there we carried on to Sydney Opera House.

We headed to Surrey Hills to check into our accommodation, and both passed out straight away. We had an energising (not) two hours sleep, before we went for dinner to meet Emma and some of her friends. We ate at a place called Chin Chin, a South East Asian restaurant and bar that is apparently impossible to get a table at. Hurrah that Emma managed it though, because the food was amazing. Kingfish sashimi, goat curry and soft shell crab – honestly, the food dreams are made of.
We asked the waiter to take a photo of us, and honestly, this was the least out of focus of the lot.
This morning we slept in embarrassingly late. We woke up with just enough time for Saf to go for a run (in 30 degree heat – why!?) and to get ready before heading out to lunch with Saf’s Australian colleagues. They had chosen an Indian restaurant about a 20 minute walk away from where we were staying, and we had another AMAZING meal, accompanied by a bottle of wine or seven.

After a couple more drinks by the harbour, we parted ways, and Saf and I made our way to a rooftop bar to meet a few of his friends for some early evening drinks. Saf was lagging big time, having been drinking since midday, so we ended up taking an uber home by 8pm. He fell asleep straight away while I packed everything up ready to leave for Brisbane first thing in the morning.
